Getting a new kitten is an exciting time! In order to help you maximize your first few days with your new family member, we have prepared the following shopping list that you can use to get all your goods at Mutley & Mog which you can get delivered straight to your home or work place. We are always here to help with any questions you may have.
Food & Water Bowl
Ceramic or stainless steel non-tippable bowls are recommended. They should be durable and cleaned daily. Fresh water should be available at all times.
Cat Bed
Give your kitten soft bedding, like towels or blankets, placed in cosy corners to encourage them to sleep there.
Pet Carrier
The safest and most comfortable way to transport and travel with your kitten. Make sure that you choose one that is easy to clean with removable base.
Litter Tray & Cat Litter
Fill the litter tray with cat litter & place it somewhere that provides privacy, yet is within easy reach of your kitten but away from food. Place your kitten it in the mornings and evenings and they will soon get the idea. Give lots of praise when they use it.
Scratching Post
Kittens scratch to sharpen their claws and mark their territory, and this can sometimes include your furniture & curtains! Make sure you give your kitten a scratching post to use and give them lots of praise when they use it.
Collar
A collar, especially one with an identity tag, will show that your kitten belongs to you and it's not a stray. Elasticated safety collars are recommended. Any collar should fit snugly, but allow one finger's width of space between the neck and collar. Remember to loosen you kitten's collar as they grow.
Toys
Many cats enjoy playing with jingle balls, catnip toys, feather wands & very large jingle bells. Do Not give them yarn or loose string to play with, as they can choke or ingest it. Cats need interaction particularly if they are indoor cats. They have a lot of energy to burn off. Toys like Da Bird are fantastic to give them the illusion of hunting like they would in the wild Have fun with your cat and be careful in choosing the right toys!
Grooming
Kittens love to be made a fuss of and will enjoy being groomed. The attention you give them will also help to strengthen your relationship. Make sure you choose a brush that is suitable for your kitten's hair length. For kittens and cats that cast a lot of hair there is the Furminator grooming tools which helps greatly in the deshedding process by removing all the dead hairs that are just lying in the coat ready to some out.
Food & Nutrition
The first year of your kitten's life is the most important. And so is their first food. What you feed your kitten will have a direct effect on her growth and development. So it's important to ensure that their food is formulated with all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that they need. At Mutley & Mog we would recommend feeding a high quality complete dry food such as Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved, Applaws or Orijen which all contain a very high meat content and have no added preservatives or fillers.
If you would prefer to feed a wet food then we would strongly recommend looking for a food with over 60% meat such as Applaws, Natures Menu or Hilife.
